The Connection Between Hair Shine & Age

Our hair changes throughout our lives due to several factors including excessive heat, swimming in a pool, loss of collagen, change in hormones, low-protein diet, change in environment i.e pollution in the air.

According to 2019 research, these factors play an important role in damaging our hair leaving it with less shine and less strength as we get older.Let’s briefly consider the structure and chemical composition of hair – this will help us understand what substances will be most useful for hair care:

Raise your hand if you noticed: 🙌🏼

  • Hair breakages
  • Hair sticking out
  • Hair lost its shine and health
  • Dry split ends
  • Hair is limp and lacking volume

So… how can we minimize these awful factors from happening?

Yes, of course, naturally your hair will lose its shine and strength as you grow older but there are always some ways to lessen the process by following the proposed recommendations below👇🏽

  • Hydrate your hair
It is very important to keep your hair hydrated with nourishing hair masks and conditioner after every shampoo
  • Don’t skip hair treatments
Healthy hair treatments, performed by hair experts, can enhance the strength and shine of your hair.
  •  Avoid dyeing your hair often
Frequent hair dyeing is the worst hair enemy – harsh chemicals including bleach can easily destroy your hair leaving it with no shine.
  • Protect hair when swimming
Protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine by conditioning your hair before swimming and wearing a swimming cap. Check out our previous post “how to protect hair from chlorine damage” for more info.

Just remember a decrease in a natural hair shine is a gradual process (see below) 👀 It can be considered a natural process (we don’t expect to maintain shiny locks that we had as kids throughout our lives)

🤓HOWEVER, if you hair used to be healthy and shiny just a year ago…and it suddenly feels dry & damaged, it might be a sign ❗️you need to upgrade your hair game and speak to one of our experts!
